About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide and manage patient care as a member of an interdisciplinary team through the nursing process
- Assess patient status through interviews, observation, and physical assessment under RN supervision
- Assist the RN in developing individualized patient care plans
- Implement appropriate interventions and evaluate/document patient progress toward expected outcomes
- Modify care plans based on evaluations
- Complete patient charts and event reports
- Troubleshoot nursing equipment and maintain technical knowledge
- Continue professional development and share clinical knowledge through informal teaching
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members from admission through discharge
- Organize, prioritize, and delegate patient-care tasks appropriately
- Provide goal-focused shift reports and advocate for patients with physicians
- Educate patients and families about procedures, illness, and the hospital experience
- Ensure patient safety by following policies, procedures, and National Patient Safety Goals
- Participate in data collection, performance improvement initiatives, unit councils, and patient-satisfaction efforts
- Identify practice problems and implement changes based on literature and process-improvement outcomes
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days
- Ability to work full-time day shifts: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week, 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
- Ability to work every other weekend
- Ability to work every other holiday
- No on-call requirement
- Ability to provide nursing care under RN supervision
- Technical knowledge of nursing equipment and ability to troubleshoot problems
- Knowledge and application of evidence-based nursing practices
- Ability to assume non-complex and some complex patient assignments
- Ability to prioritize work based on patient condition and assignment changes
- Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
- Ability to educate patients and families using age-specific and culturally appropriate strategies
