About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist providers and clinical staff with obtaining vital information and preparing patients for examinations, treatments, and minor surgical procedures
- Obtain patient review of systems and medical history; measure and document vital signs
- Perform basic rooming functions and screening questions
- Draw and collect blood and other specimens and prepare them for laboratory analysis
- Carry out provider clinical orders, including administering medications and vaccinations orally or by injection
- Manage tracking systems for follow-up appointments, laboratory tests, and procedures
- Assist with managing results and follow-up as determined by the provider
- Schedule specialist and outpatient referrals and complete referral and laboratory requisitions
- Provide CPT/ICD-10 coding on appropriate forms and requisitions
- Document patient care in the electronic medical record using standardized workflows
- Answer patient and family questions and provide education as directed by the provider
- Attend clinic and department meetings and monitor organizational communications
- Perform other duties requested by the Clinic Administrator to support office operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED
- Certified Medical Assistant certification: NCCT, CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), or CCMA (NHA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days
- Certified medical assistant work experience
- Ability to perform basic rooming functions, obtain medical histories and vital signs, and complete clinical documentation
- Ability to draw and collect blood and other patient samples
- Ability to administer medications and vaccinations within scope of competency
- Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding
- Compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management, HIPAA, and workplace policies
- Regular and consistent attendance
