About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform clinical laboratory testing used in disease treatment and diagnosis
  • Store and label specimens and use manual and automated equipment to prepare specimens and perform analytical tests
  • Perform routine, urgent, and stat testing accurately and safely within established time periods
  • Calibrate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Maintain laboratory supply inventory and report supplies below established par levels
  • Perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures and evaluate test acceptability
  • Communicate information accurately and effectively with internal and external customers
  • Troubleshoot test-result and instrument-function problems or seek additional assistance
  • Participate in accreditation, proficiency testing, and annual performance competencies
  • Develop educational materials and educate students and new staff
  • Assist with writing, evaluating, revising, and implementing policies and procedures
  • Perform testing in Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology, including specimen processing
  • Perform manual WBC and body-fluid differentials, manual body-fluid cell counts, specimen dilutions, gram stains, molecular assays, antibody identification, and titers
  • Notify appropriate staff of calibration or equipment failures and unresolved values outside acceptable ranges

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or Medical Technology
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (AMT) certification within 1 year
  • Medical Technologist (MT) (ASCP) certification within 1 year
  • Medical Technologist (MT) (AMT) certification within 1 year
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (ASCP) certification within 1 year
  • Clinical laboratory work experience
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Able to work evening shifts, rotating weekends, 1–2 holidays per year, and 1–2 on-call assignments per schedule period
  • Successfully complete and maintain MLS level II requirements under the Professional Laboratory Advancement Program
  • Successfully complete and maintain MLS level III requirements under the Professional Laboratory Advancement Program
  • Complete accreditation, proficiency testing, and annual performance competencies
  • Complete continuing education required by laboratory policy and certification requirements
