About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide care to individuals with behavioral, emotional, or mental health problems
  • Assist the interdisciplinary treatment team with patient assessments and goal-directed treatment development
  • Obtain pertinent information from referral sources and assist with facilitating admissions
  • Complete admission assessments, excluding nursing components
  • Ensure compliance with legal admission requirements, patients’ rights, releases of information, and 5-day release requests
  • Maintain knowledge of advanced directives
  • Administer and score assessment scales according to protocol
  • Participate in interdisciplinary clinical staffing and provide pertinent information to the team
  • Develop, review, and revise plans of care for assigned patients
  • Complete required documentation, including assessment scales and DAR-format intervention notes
  • Create and maintain a safe, caring, nurturing, healing, and educational therapeutic milieu
  • Set behavioral limits according to unit policies, plans of care, and behavior modification plans
  • De-escalate patients using CPI techniques
  • Participate in seclusion/restraint procedures, monitor patients, and complete related documentation
  • Provide supportive care to patients and families
  • Conduct safety rounds and assist with conflict resolution
  • Role-model stress management and follow patient safety policies, procedures, and goals
  • Provide assigned group and individual therapies
  • Facilitate educational, structured, and psychoeducational groups
  • Use therapeutic models, primarily brief therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Incorporate Recovery principles into therapeutic interventions
  • Recognize and report abuse or neglect as required by law
  • Provide support, set limits, and facilitate learning during one-to-one interventions
  • Follow group rules, schedules, and content outlines while individualizing groups to patient needs
  • Engage patients in community meetings
  • Interact with parents and significant others regarding programming questions and patient progress
  • Assist with unit Performance Improvement activities
  • Promote and achieve satisfaction among patients, families, departments, and physicians
  • Generate ideas to improve processes, treatment, and patient care
  • Participate in Root Cause Analyses and help develop and implement action plans
  • Serve on unit and hospital committees
  • Precept new employees
  • Complete assignments from the Program Manager or unit committees
  • Volunteer for assignments designed to implement needed changes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Related Field
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within 3 months
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced English reading skills
  • Advanced English writing skills
  • Advanced English oral skills
  • Ability to respond appropriately to customers/co-workers
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to communicate only the facts to recipients or decline to reveal information
  • Ability to project a professional, friendly, helpful demeanor
  • Basic computer knowledge, including word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser applications
  • Comfortable using Windows OS and learning new applications
  • Ability to work evening shifts from 3p–11:30p
  • Ability to work every other weekend and holiday rotation
