About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the adolescent behavioral health inpatient unit
  • Assist in providing care to individuals with behavioral, emotional, and mental health diagnoses
  • Ensure therapeutic activities, groups, and daily schedules are followed and implemented
  • Direct direct-care staff in guiding patients toward treatment goals
  • Build positive relationships and provide primary support during behavioral management needs
  • De-escalate patients using the CPI model and prevention strategies
  • Participate in seclusion/restraint application and monitor patients when appropriate
  • Complete documentation and participate in patient and staff debriefing
  • Help patients develop coping skills and emotional-regulation strategies
  • Interface with behavioral health and security staff to promote safety
  • Monitor video/audio equipment and conduct rounds in the patient-care area
  • Obtain pertinent clinical data and ensure patients are treated with respect and dignity
  • Document interventions succinctly and in a goal-directed manner
  • Incorporate trauma-informed care through therapeutic interactions and de-escalation
  • Assess patients and suggest treatment goals for those who pose a risk to themselves or others
  • Assist with performance-improvement activities, chart audits, data compilation, and root-cause analyses
  • Compile and assist in analyzing intake, utilization, and patient-flow data
  • Collaborate with the unit manager, staff, and educator to maintain a supportive, structured environment
  • Assist with disposition planning and referrals to appropriate community services
  • Educate patients and families on behavioral-outburst management and recovery principles
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain relationships with community providers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Science
  • 1 year of behavioral health experience
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within 3 months
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Ability to work evening shift, 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.
  • Every other weekend requirement
  • Holiday rotation
  • No on-call requirement
  • Participate in and complete documentation for patient interventions, seclusion/restraints, debriefing, and electronic event reports
  • Comply with legal components of admissions and treatment recommendations, including mental health code, confidentiality act, voluntary/involuntary admissions, patients’ rights, and releases of information
  • Recognize and report abuse/neglect situations as required by law
