About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform essential job functions of Healthcare Technician (HCT)
  • Provide personal care and hygiene assistance to assigned patients under RN supervision
  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms on telemetry patients and report changes or concerns to charge/assigned RN
  • Maintain telemetry log book for monitored patients
  • Maintain and test telemetry unit alarms
  • Ensure telemetry boxes function properly, are counted, cleaned, and prepared for reuse
  • Complete basic dysrhythmia education during orientation
  • Take vital signs, including post-procedure frequent vital signs
  • Assist with feeding, blood glucose checks, hygiene, bathroom use, patient turns, intake/output collection, and daily weights
  • Answer call lights
  • Observe monitors and inform RN of alarms
  • Document telemetry readings in the EMR
  • Answer phones and communicate with departments, visitors, patients, medical staff, and employees
  • Print telemetry strips
  • Serve as a public relations liaison for the unit
  • Work under the direct supervision of the nursing manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) experience or at least one semester of nursing clinical experience
  • Worked as CNA within past 24 months
  • Successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program
  • Relevant medical military training
  • Completion of CNA coursework within past 24 months
  • Ability to perform Healthcare Technician duties
  • Ability to continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and report changes to registered nurses
  • Ability to maintain and test telemetry alarms and ensure proper operation of telemetry boxes
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday availability
  • Ability to work variable schedule (varies; 3-12 hour shifts/week)
