About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist the provider and Registered Nurse in delivering safe and effective patient care during intraoperative procedures
- Provide clinical support in the delivery room and operating room within Labor and Delivery
- Apply aseptic principles and maintain a sterile environment
- Prepare the patient’s abdomen, drape the sterile field, and pass instrumentation during operative procedures
- Perform instrument counts with the RN circulator
- Participate in room turnover and setup
- Operate a stapling device under the provider’s direct supervision for skin closure
- Maintain and clean equipment and identify items needing repair
- Prepare instruments for terminal sterilization
- Perform patient support duties under RN direction, including venipuncture, vital signs, weights, blood glucose testing, and specimen collection, labeling, and transport
- Assist with supplies and equipment organization
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment
- Facilitate communication with departments, visitors, patients, medical staff, and employees
- Provide clerical support and personal care/hygiene assistance as assigned
- Serve as a public relations liaison for the unit
Requirements
What you’ll need- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) experience, with work as a CNA within the past 24 months
- Relevant medical military training, or completion of CNA coursework within the past 24 months, or at least one semester of nursing clinical experience, or successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program
- Ability to work night shift: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week, 6:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
- Weekend availability every third weekend
- Work 2–3 holidays per year
- On-call availability as needed
- Ability to perform duties in accordance with hospital safety, legal, and departmental policies
