About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate and treat patients of all ages
  • Serve as a role model in professional service delivery and as a clinical resource for staff and students
  • Design plans of care integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge plans
  • Adjust care based on patient response and available evidence
  • Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers
  • Evaluate clinical findings to determine diagnoses and outcomes of care
  • Perform examinations based on chief complaint, screening results, and patient history
  • Screen patients for therapy service effectiveness and need
  • Monitor care delivered by support personnel and provide regular feedback
  • Document evaluations, plans of care, goals, treatment modifications, and patient responses
  • Evaluate impairments related to upper extremity function
  • Establish plans of care based on functional deficits and patient goals
  • Complete objective testing for range of motion, strength, and daily functional tasks
  • Complete daily documentation and charging in the therapy EMR
  • Perform therapeutic ultrasound and fluidotherapy treatments
  • Communicate with referring providers about patient progress and treatment recommendations
  • Complete assigned annual education for DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program requirements, if applicable

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all required continuing education regarding the care of acute stroke patients
  • 1+ years of work experience
  • Ability to perform patient transfers with assistance as needed from bed, chair, and floor
  • Knowledge and demonstration of safe and appropriate body mechanics
  • Ability to design and adjust plans of care based on patient response and available evidence
  • Ability to educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers
  • Ability to perform examinations and use reliable and valid examination methods
  • Ability to screen patients to determine effectiveness and need for therapy services
  • Ability to use and monitor support personnel according to legal and ethical standards
  • Ability to document evaluations and plans of care according to department policy
