About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise daily operations of Emergency Department, Hospital Outpatient Registration, Switchboard, Guest Relations, Primary Care Registration, and Specialty Care Registration staff
  • Resolve work-related issues and assist employees with problem solving
  • Recommend and initiate personnel actions, assign work, and review direct reports' work
  • Ensure staff are trained and competent in required job tasks
  • Develop and maintain staff schedules, fill open shifts and call-ins, and coordinate with the Scheduling Committee
  • Maintain budget parameters and provide management input regarding budget needs
  • Resolve customer concerns, questions, and complaints and report resolutions
  • Establish work and desk assignments to ensure staffing coverage and customer service
  • Establish registration-error standards, review errors, and initiate training
  • Serve as timekeeper in Kronos and assist with payroll processing
  • Ensure Work Patient, Account, Claim Edit, and Router Workques are completed timely
  • Review productivity of Referral, Patient, and Appointment Request Workques and in-basket completion
  • Assist the Patient Access Manager with denial review, policy review, budget review, and process improvement
  • Participate in weekend/holiday Patient Access Leader on-call rotation
  • Assume the Patient Access Manager's role and duties during the manager's absence

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate's Degree in a related field (required)
  • 2 years of healthcare experience
  • Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAA) certification within 2 years through NAHAM
  • Ability to supervise Patient Access staff and functions
  • Ability to prepare and maintain staff schedules
  • Ability to audit registration data and establish registration error standards
  • Ability to coordinate staff training and new employee job training
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call requirements
  • Proficiency with Kronos and payroll-related processes
  • Ability to work Patient, Account, Claim Edit, Router, Referral, and Appointment Request Workques
  • Ability to participate in denial review, policy review, budget review, and process improvement
