About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure patient safety by providing a safe environment
  • Directly observe identified patients throughout the assigned shift
  • Provide activities for patient entertainment and treatment purposes
  • Remove potentially dangerous items from patient rooms and surroundings
  • Implement patient safety protocols
  • Assist patients with routine activities, meal selection, tray setup, and phone calls
  • Notify nursing staff regarding clinical activities and changes in patient behavior
  • Coordinate care with hospital personnel, Lead RN or assigned RN, Security, and other staff
  • Report intake and output and patient behavior observations to the assigned RN
  • Document safety protocol implementation and proof of observation on flow sheets
  • Ensure safety protocols are used according to policy

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within 3 months
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Ability to directly observe identified patient(s) at all times during assigned shift
  • Ability to implement patient safety protocols for elopement risk, suicide risk, self-harm potential, fall risk, and aggression risk
  • Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Ability to coordinate care with hospital personnel and consult with nursing staff, security, and other staff
  • Position is As Needed (PRN)
