About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide additional assistance to keep identified patients safe from self-harm
- Ensure a safe environment for patients
- Directly observe identified patients at all times during the assigned shift
- Promote diversionary activities as necessary
- Remove potentially dangerous items from patient rooms and surroundings
- Ensure implementation of patient safety protocols, including elopement precautions
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
- Assist patients with routine activities and meal selection
- Set up meal trays when there are no restrictions
- Answer patient phones
- Notify nursing staff when assistance is needed with toileting, ambulation, or other activities
- Coordinate care with appropriate hospital personnel
- Consult with the Lead RN, assigned RN, Security, and other staff as needed
- Report oral intake, patient observations, behavior, and behavioral changes to the assigned RN or nursing staff
- Document implementation of safety protocols and proof of observation on flow sheets
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ability to provide continuous direct observation of identified patients during assigned shifts
- Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
- Ability to implement patient safety protocols, including elopement precautions
- Ability to assist with routine activities, meals, toileting, ambulation, and other necessary activities
- Ability to document observations and safety protocols on flow sheets
- Ability to coordinate care with nursing staff, security, and hospital personnel
- Minimum schedule of 1 day per week (3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.)
- 1 weekend shift in a 6-week schedule
- 1 holiday per year required
- No on-call requirement
