About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide additional assistance to keep identified patients safe from self-harm
Ensure a safe environment for patients
Directly observe identified patients at all times during the assigned shift
Promote diversionary activities as necessary
Remove potentially dangerous items from patient rooms and surroundings
Implement and ensure compliance with patient safety protocols, including elopement precautions
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
Assist patients with routine activities, meals, toileting, ambulation, and other necessary activities
Coordinate care with appropriate hospital personnel
Consult with the Lead RN, assigned RN, Security, and other staff as needed
Report oral intake, patient observations, behavior, and behavioral changes to the assigned RN or nursing staff
Document implementation of safety protocols, proof of observation, and other protocols on flow sheets

Requirements

What you’ll need

Ability to provide continuous direct observation of identified patients during the assigned shift
Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
Ability to assist patients with routine activities, meal selection, meal tray setup, and phone calls
Ability to recognize and report changes in patient behavior and oral intake to nursing staff
Ability to document safety protocols and observations on flow sheets
Ability to coordinate care with hospital personnel, Lead RN, assigned RN, Security, and other staff as needed
Must work night shift, 7:00pm–7:30am, three 12-hour shifts per schedule
Weekend requirement: every other weekend
Holiday requirement: every other holiday
No on-call requirement
