About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide additional assistance to keep identified patients safe from self-harm
- Ensure a safe environment for patients
- Directly observe identified patients throughout assigned shifts
- Promote diversionary activities as needed
- Remove potentially dangerous items from patient rooms and surroundings
- Implement patient safety protocols, including elopement precautions
- Assist patients with routine activities, toileting, ambulation, meals, and phone calls as appropriate
- Coordinate care with Lead RN, assigned RN, Security, and other hospital personnel
- Report oral intake, observations, and behavior changes to nursing staff
- Document safety protocol implementation, proof of observation, and other protocols on flow sheets
Requirements
What you’ll need- Required availability of 48 hours per quarter
- Ability to directly observe identified patients at all times during assigned shift
- Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
- Ability to assist with routine patient activities, meal selection, and meal tray set-up when appropriate
- Ability to coordinate care with nursing staff, security, and other hospital personnel
- Ability to document safety protocols and observations on flow sheets
- Ability to report patient behavior, oral intake, and changes in condition to assigned nursing staff
