About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support surgical services operations across pre-op, intra-op, and post-op areas
  • Assist surgeons, physicians, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and registered nurses
  • Perform perioperative support functions across multiple surgical specialties and phases of surgery
  • Prepare surgical procedures and patients, anticipating and prioritizing simultaneous needs
  • Review daily surgery schedules, collaborate with leadership, and plan support functions
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot surgical equipment and specialty systems
  • Apply aseptic techniques, open sterile items, and perform skin preparation
  • Ensure equipment, hazard warnings, and practice compliance during laser use
  • Provide case-specific equipment, specialty operating tables, and assistive devices
  • Document activities accurately and timely
  • Foster communication with patients’ families and address patient and family needs
  • Promote a safe environment, teamwork, and patient satisfaction
  • Attend department meetings and educational offerings
  • Communicate with nursing staff and participate in education and training
  • Assist colleagues with assignments and manage time effectively
  • Respond to on-call needs outside scheduled hours, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Knowledge and skill in aseptic technique
  • Knowledge and skill in sterilization and disinfection techniques
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, anesthesia, and supplies
  • Ability to function independently in multiple perioperative areas
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot endoscopic video systems
  • Working knowledge of electrosurgical units, tourniquet systems, positioning devices, insufflation equipment, patient warming devices, sterilizers, phaco emulsifiers, vitrectors, irrigation devices, microscopes, anesthesia machines, and specialty carts
  • Knowledge of surgical conscience and pre-op, intra-op, and post-op interrelationships
  • Ability to operate various laser systems and comply with laser safety practices
  • Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to set up and operate equipment for various surgical specialties
  • Ability to work assigned weekly, weekend, holiday, and on-call shifts
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with surgical teams and support staff
