About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete the Pharmacy Tech University Program
- Sit for the pharmacy technician certification exam
- Accurately fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists
- Enter and process new prescriptions and refills
- Fill medication orders, including new or lost doses, floor stock replacement items, unit and dose carts, and outpatient and take-home prescriptions
- Perform billing functions, including patient charging and crediting, nursing unit charges, and controlled substance charging
- Perform non-sterile compounding
- Inspect nursing units and pharmacy areas for expired or unusable drugs; maintain storage and inventory
- Prepare IV products using aseptic technique and apply proper labeling
- Prepare parenteral nutrition solutions and provide laboratory information to pharmacists
- Prepare batch IV products using the batch compounder
- Prepare and deliver enteral nutritional supplements; maintain records and billing functions
- Provide services to Operating Room staff from the OR medication room
- Refer customer calls to a pharmacist when appropriate
- Restock and replace trays and kits throughout the facility
- Learn and perform certified pharmacy technician responsibilities with a preceptor
- Complete mandatory training and competency modules and receive performance feedback
- Transfer to a Pharmacy Tech position in the acute care setting upon program completion
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Certified Pharmacy Technician within 2 years of license issue date in Illinois
- Certified Pharmacy Technician certification not required for student pharmacists or technicians licensed before 1/1/2008
- Successfully complete the Pharmacy Tech University Program according to the schedule/timeline
- Sit for the certification exam
- Complete all mandatory training and competency modules
- Work with a preceptor to perform all department responsibilities
- Various weekends throughout the program; every other weekend post-program
- Every other holiday post-program
- Ability to work variable shifts, including classroom and clinical rotation schedules
- Work authorization verification through E-Verify and Form I-9
