About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients across Carle facilities
- File, compound, reconstitute, label, and deliver medications
- Prepare and label chemotherapy drugs safely and accurately, except PRN technicians
- Fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists
- Develop and maintain training materials as needed
- Assist with special projects assigned by the Director
- Enter and process new prescriptions and refills
- Fill medication orders, including new or lost doses, floor stock replacements, unit dose carts, outpatient and take-home prescriptions
- Perform billing functions, including patient charging, crediting, nursing unit charges, and controlled substance charging
- Perform non-sterile compounding
- Inspect nursing units and pharmacy areas for expired or unusable drugs and maintain proper storage and inventory
- Prepare IV products using aseptic technique and proper labeling, except PRN technicians
- Prepare parenteral nutrition solutions and provide laboratory information to pharmacists when assigned, except PRN technicians
- Prepare batch IV products using the batch compounder, except PRN technicians
- Prepare and deliver enteral nutritional supplements and maintain records and billing
- Provide services to Operating Room staff from the OR medication room
- Refer customers and calls to a pharmacist when appropriate
- Restock and replace trays and kits throughout the facility
Requirements
What you’ll need- Certified Pharmacy Technician certification is not required for student pharmacists or technicians licensed before 1/1/2008
- Certified Pharmacy Technician certification required within 2 years of license issue date (Illinois)
- Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application
- Licensing through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Must work the Wednesday–Saturday 8:00 PM–6:30 AM night schedule
