About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients across Carle Foundation Hospital, Kirby and Hoopeston Hospitals, and Carle Enterprise locations
  • Perform filing, compounding, reconstitution, labeling, and medication delivery
  • Prepare and label chemotherapy drugs for administration
  • Fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists
  • Develop and maintain training materials as needed
  • Assist with special projects assigned by the Director that do not require clinical decision-making
  • Enter and process new prescriptions and refills
  • Fill medication orders, including new or lost doses, floor stock replacements, unit dose carts, outpatient and take-home prescriptions
  • Perform billing functions including patient charging, crediting, nursing unit charges, and controlled substance charging
  • Perform non-sterile compounding
  • Inspect nursing units and pharmacy areas for expired or unusable drugs and maintain proper storage and inventory
  • Prepare IV products using aseptic technique and proper labeling
  • Prepare parenteral nutrition solutions and provide laboratory information to pharmacists
  • Prepare batch IV products using a batch compounder
  • Prepare and deliver enteral nutritional supplements and maintain related records and billing
  • Provide services to Operating Room staff from the OR medication room
  • Refer customers and calls to a pharmacist when appropriate
  • Restock and replace facility trays and kits

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician not required for student pharmacists or technicians licensed before 1/1/2008
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certification within 2 years of license issue date (Illinois)
  • Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
  • Ability to accurately and safely prepare and label chemotherapy drugs, except PRN technicians
  • Ability to prepare IV products using aseptic technique, except PRN technicians
  • Ability to prepare parenteral nutrition solutions, except PRN technicians
  • Ability to prepare batch IV products using a batch compounder, except PRN technicians
  • Ability to work night shift, Sun-Wed 8PM-6:30AM
  • Weekend and holiday availability required
