About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine radiographic procedures on designated body areas for physician diagnosis and treatment
- Ensure patient safety, quality care, customer satisfaction, and a respectful professional environment
- Position patients, adjust imaging equipment, and use immobilization devices
- Determine appropriate radiographic techniques based on anatomy and patient condition
- Obtain patient histories, complete medication reconciliation, and document information for radiologist review
- Assist radiologists with routine fluoroscopic and invasive procedures
- Operate portable radiographic equipment and C-arm in patient rooms, intensive care, and surgery
- Initiate emergency medical support, including code blue and rapid response, as indicated
- Document allergic reactions according to policy
- Transport patients to and from the department
- Check film quality and labeling
- Perform quality control, coordinate patient flow, and communicate with radiologists and hospital personnel
- Prepare radiographic/fluoroscopic rooms and maintain equipment and supplies
- Report deficient inventory to the Lead Technologist
- Direct and instruct radiology students
- Maintain positive guest relations and telephone etiquette
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Apply radiation safety measures and protection devices
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Registered in Radiography (R) within 3 months from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist – Radiography through the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
- Certificate of Completion in Radiologic Technology
- Associate's Degree in a related field
- Ability to perform routine radiographic procedures
- Ability to perform advanced imaging in Surgery and Fluoroscopy
- Ability to operate portable radiographic equipment and C-arm
- Knowledge of radiation safety measures and protection devices
- Ability to obtain and document accurate patient medical histories
- Position is as-needed (PRN), with variable shifts and as-needed weekend, holiday, and on-call requirements
