About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform diagnostic general radiological procedures using various imaging equipment
- Acquire and process patient examinations according to department protocols, accrediting-body requirements, and manufacturer guidelines
- Review cases with radiologists when appropriate
- Review laboratory results, patient history, radiology orders, and supporting clinical data for exam accuracy and medical necessity
- Administer IV, oral, and rectal contrast when appropriate and respond to adverse or allergic reactions
- Perform venipuncture and pregnancy screening/testing when applicable
- Maintain acceptable imaging quality through positioning, technical-factor, and alignment review
- Transfer and verify image data in PACS and provide medical history and information for radiologist interpretation
- Use web servers and email systems to send exams for preliminary readings after hours
- Maintain imaging equipment, supplies, and workplace orderliness; report malfunctions and service needs
- Ensure patient, visitor, and environmental safety and immediately report safety events
- Assist with training students and new staff
- Cover Rad Tech Lead or Imaging Coordinator duties when needed
- Meet department productivity benchmarks and assist other areas during downtimes
- Comply with duties for cross-trained modalities performed within the department
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's Degree in a related field
- Certificate of Completion in Radiologic Technology
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Registered in Radiography (R) within 1 year from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist – Radiography through the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
- Ability to perform diagnostic general radiological procedures
- Ability to administer IV, oral, and rectal contrast when appropriate
- Ability to perform venipuncture
- Ability to screen patients for pregnancy and perform pregnancy testing when applicable
- Ability to comply with department protocols, accrediting-body requirements, and manufacturer guidelines
