About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Implement and monitor respiratory regimens in the pulmonary rehabilitation program
- Provide pulmonary participant support
- Perform pre- and post-exercise blood pressure checks
- Monitor oximetry responses before, during, and after exercise
- Assess participant progress and recommend continued care to participants, staff, and the Medical Director
- Assist with exercise prescription data collection and individualized treatment plans
- Orient new participants and assist with initial respiratory assessments and care-plan development
- Chart and document assessments, daily exercise data, and participant progress
- Attend pulmonary rehabilitation team conferences and contribute to future program goals
- Report significant abnormal participant conditions and initiate emergency care according to policy
- Instruct participants in relevant pulmonary rehabilitation education topics
- Lead participant education sessions when appropriate
- Supervise exercise sessions and monitor participants for inappropriate exercise responses
- Recommend timely interventions, further treatment, or referrals
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) within 10 weeks through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Certificate of Completion in Respiratory Therapy
- Work experience in a related field
- Ability to perform blood pressure checks and monitor oximetry, heart rate, and perceived dyspnea responses
- Ability to assess participants' progress and make recommendations regarding continued care
- Ability to initiate emergency care according to program policy
- Ability to instruct participants in pulmonary rehabilitation educational topics
- Ability to chart and document assessments, exercise data, and participant progress
