About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage and perform respiratory therapy, ventilator management, ECG, oxygen administration, and airway management
  • Perform all forms of respiratory therapy, non-invasive cardiology, and assigned patient care duties
  • Interpret and execute physician orders and individualize therapy to patient needs
  • Calculate medication dosages and provide patient education
  • Perform intubations and change tracheostomy tubes as assigned
  • Perform oxygen rounds and arrange home oxygen, nebulizer, and suction equipment
  • Respond to emergency situations, rapid response team calls, codes, pages, and requests
  • Perform accurate testing, obtain laboratory specimens, and conduct bedside arterial blood gas (ABG) testing with quality control
  • Set up, verify, operate, monitor, and maintain ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP
  • Perform ventilator checks every two hours and as needed; set alarms and document settings and patient information
  • Participate in patient rounds and collaborate with physicians and healthcare workers
  • Maintain accurate therapy, ventilator, oxygen, ECG, diagnostic-test, and charge-entry documentation
  • Maintain a clean work area and stock supplies
  • Follow infection-control, patient-safety, protective-equipment, and hospital policies
  • Complete mandatory education, learn new equipment and procedures, and support clinical instruction of students and healthcare workers
  • Notify leaders of inappropriate patient-care issues and document medication and patient-care errors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Certificate of Completion in Respiratory Therapy
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association within 30 days
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association within 1 year
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) within 6 months for Peoria, Illinois, through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from the American Academy of Pediatrics within 1 year
  • Respiratory therapy work experience
  • Maintain current license and credentials
  • Night shift availability: 3, 12-hour shifts, Monday-Friday, 6:30 p.m.-7:00 a.m.
  • Every other weekend and holiday requirements
  • Participate in E-Verify and provide work authorization information through Form I-9
