About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist the surgeon in general and specialized surgeries
- Collaborate with surgeons and the operating room team to ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready
- Provide patient care and support
- Administer medications
- Control bleeding, suture incisions, drape, provide exposure, and handle tissue
- Position and prepare patients on the operating table
- Monitor vital signs and heart rate
- Educate patients and families about operations and aftercare
- Perform post-operative assessments and monitor for pain or complications
- Review patient history and health assessments
- Monitor the surgery site for healing or infection
- Participate in research
- Prepare supplies and coordinate equipment to maintain an efficient, cost-effective department
- Charge for equipment and supplies
- Assist with room turnover
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR)
- College Diploma in Nursing
- Certificate of Completion of an accredited RNFA program
- 2+ years of perioperative nursing experience
- Ability to scrub and circulate based upon unit needs
- Participation in on-call rotation
- Must complete Form I-9 work authorization verification
