About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide and manage patient care as part of an interdisciplinary team using the nursing process
- Assess patient status through interviews, observation, and physical assessment
- Develop individualized care plans collaboratively with patients, families, and the healthcare team
- Implement appropriate interventions and evaluate and document patient progress
- Modify care plans based on evaluations and changes in patient condition
- Complete patient charts and event reports
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care from admission through discharge
- Prioritize assignments and manage non-complex and some complex patient care with assignment turnover
- Delegate tasks appropriately and provide goal-focused shift reports
- Advocate for patients with physicians when necessary
- Educate patients and families using age-, cultural-, gender-, and developmental-appropriate strategies
- Ensure patient safety and follow National Patient Safety Goals
- Perform bedside laboratory testing and associated quality control
- Participate in data collection, audits, performance improvement initiatives, and patient satisfaction efforts
- Serve on unit-based councils and identify practice problems
- Implement clinical practice changes based on literature and process improvement outcomes
- Share clinical knowledge and support professional development of team members
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
- College Diploma: Nursing
- Availability for night shift, 3 twelve-hour shifts per week, 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
- Weekend availability every third weekend
- Holiday availability
- On-call availability for 2–4 hour shifts per 6-week pay period
- Ability to perform evidence-based nursing practice and use the nursing process
- Ability to obtain adequate laboratory specimens and perform bedside laboratory testing with quality control
- Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
- Ability to use and troubleshoot medical equipment
- Ability to follow patient safety goals, hospital policies, standards of care, and quality initiatives
