About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assume responsibility for a group of patients during a designated time frame
- Provide patient care using the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and available financial and human resources
- Perform unit-specific responsibilities and procedures within the scope of practice
- Maintain accurate documentation of nursing care
- Complete admission assessments and develop, implement, and continually modify plans of care
- Report or correct safety hazards and incidents
- Communicate with colleagues, provide constructive feedback, and expand professional knowledge
- Receive bedside shift reports and validate patient room safety at shift change
- Delegate patient care tasks to healthcare technicians and validate completion
- Perform and document assessments, interpret vital signs, complete physician orders, admissions, discharges, hourly rounding, care plans, and patient education
- Administer medications using the five rights
- Answer patient call lights promptly and triage patient requests and medical needs
- Use critical thinking and nursing judgment to identify changes in patient condition
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate care and promote patient safety
- Manage time effectively to expedite observation-patient admissions, testing, and discharge disposition
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days
- College diploma in Nursing
- Ability to work day shift schedule: 7a–7:30p, three 12-hour shifts
- Weekend requirements: up to every other weekend
- Holiday requirements: every other holiday on unit rotation
- Must perform departmental competencies
- Must maintain accurate nursing documentation and comply with Carle Med/Surg RN documentation standards
- Must provide medications using the five rights of medication administration
- Must comply with patient safety measures, including fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and ambulation safety
