About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assume responsibility for a group of pediatric patients during a designated time frame
  • Provide patient care using the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and institutional resources
  • Perform unit-specific responsibilities and procedures
  • Maintain accurate nursing care documentation
  • Complete initial patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care
  • Implement nursing interventions and patient care procedures
  • Continuously evaluate and modify plans of care
  • Report or correct safety hazards and incidents
  • Communicate with patients, families, colleagues, and providers to resolve issues and support professional development
  • Collaborate with Pediatric Intensivists, Pediatric Hospitalists, and the multidisciplinary team
  • Monitor intake and output for pediatric patients
  • Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs
  • Administer medications using proper barcode scanning
  • Notify providers of high-alert laboratory results
  • Serve as a mandated reporter for suspected abuse or neglect
  • Communicate with patients and families through hourly rounding, bedside reports, and whiteboard updates
  • Ensure quality patient outcomes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in Illinois
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year from the American Heart Association
  • Fulfill all departmental competency requirements
  • Work night shift, 7p–7:30a, three 12-hour shifts
  • Work the equivalent of every other weekend, 5–6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
  • Work every other holiday on rotation
