About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assess patients' vascular access needs and develop individualized standards of care
- Insert, maintain, and remove vascular access devices, including PICC and Midline devices
- Apply evidence-based infection control practices
- Assess, plan, coordinate, monitor, and support patient care and education
- Complete and timely submit PICC, Midline, education, visit, telephone, physician order, admission, supervisory, and discharge documentation
- Ensure physician orders and care plan corrections are completed and transmitted on schedule
- Provide care according to plans of care and orders
- Act as a preceptor and support staff and learner development
- Coordinate with team members, physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals
- Advocate for patients and significant others
- Participate in literature reviews, collaboration, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives
- Provide vascular access device education to patients, families, and staff
- Demonstrate leadership and serve as a unit/department resource and role model
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, staff, and physicians
Requirements
What you’ll need- PICC insertion experience required
- Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) - Vascular Access Certification Corporation (VACC)
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
- College Diploma: Nursing
- Ability to work M-F 8a-4:30p with rotating Saturday call
- Ability to perform insertion, maintenance, and removal of vascular access devices
- Knowledge of infection control practices for vascular access device placement
- Ability to collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals
- Ability to document procedures, assessments, and patient outcomes
