About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide surgical technology for direct and indirect patient care and service
  • Assist surgeons and perform operative/invasive procedures
  • Prepare for surgeon-specific operative/invasive procedures accurately, efficiently, and on time
  • Ensure instruments, equipment, and sutures are appropriate, complete, and functional
  • Set up and maintain the sterile field before induction
  • Scrub on simple to complex procedures across a variety of specialties
  • Run the mayo stand independently and anticipate surgeon technique and preferences
  • Perform first scrub, first assist, second scrub, and second circulator duties
  • Perform case closing activities, including dressing application, patient transfer, and turnover
  • Anticipate and respond to intraoperative changes and unexpected events
  • Observe induction and maintain a quiet environment
  • Protect patient privacy
  • Precept and mentor surgical technologists, RNs, and other staff
  • Serve as a resource and informal lead technologist as needed
  • Communicate and collaborate with surgeons, circulating RNs, and other team members
  • Participate in required call, unit operations, and quality improvement efforts
  • Contribute to efficient unit operations and a positive work environment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Tech in Surgery (TS-C) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Availability for 1-2 on-call shifts per 4-week period, including weekends and weekdays
  • Full holiday call sign-up
  • Ability to work variable shifts
  • Ability to perform first scrub, first assist, second scrub, and second circulator duties
  • Ability to scrub simple to complex procedures across a variety of specialties
  • Ability to mentor, precept, and train surgical technologists and RNs
  • Ability to respond during assigned on-call hours within departmental time frames
  • Ability to participate in quality improvement efforts
