About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Function as an integral part of the perioperative team as the first, second, or assisting Surgical Technician under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
  • Deliver safe and effective patient care during the intraoperative period
  • Apply asepsis principles to maintain a sterile environment during surgical setup and procedures
  • Demonstrate competency in technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and appropriate knowledge
  • Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients according to department policies and procedures
  • Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment
  • Maintain a safe environment and follow hospital, unit, legal, and safety requirements
  • Charge for equipment and supplies
  • Participate in room turnover and setup
  • Maintain and clean equipment and identify items needing repair
  • Perform sterilization and disinfection and document loads
  • Obtain supplies, equipment, and positioning devices and assist with patient positioning
  • Perform scrubbing duties, including classes for medical students, residents, and other students
  • Turn over OR rooms and set up for the next patient efficiently

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology, Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology, or experience in lieu of education
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Independently scrubs basic surgical procedures
  • Ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology
  • Basic knowledge of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers
  • Knowledge and practice of patient care concepts and perioperative teamwork
  • Knowledge and application of sterile technique during surgical procedures
