About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct treatment, counseling, psychotherapy, and referrals for patients and families
  • Consult with the multidisciplinary mental health team to address patients' psychosocial needs
  • Facilitate patient, family, and significant-other adjustment to maximize healthcare benefits
  • Provide continuity of care from the hospital to the community
  • Assess psychosocial factors contributing to disorders and dysfunctional behavior
  • Evaluate patient and family interaction patterns and community support networks
  • Assess illness history, functional level, and coping strategies
  • Provide education and support to patients and families
  • Lead multidisciplinary treatment planning and contribute to diagnostic and treatment planning
  • Assess patient progress, address treatment issues affecting discharge planning, and promote insight development
  • Prepare patient charts and document multidisciplinary meeting records
  • Provide psychoeducational classes
  • Review clinical care with Mental Health staff weekly
  • Communicate pertinent clinical information to RNs, leadership, and psychiatrists
  • Maintain documentation and meet department quality-management standards
  • Participate in Department Unit Council activities and peer review
  • Provide therapy support to patients outside the Emergency Department who require Mental Health Unit-level care
  • Provide therapy support to appropriate long-term-hold patients in the Emergency Department
  • Collaborate with the Addiction Recovery Unit and support the PDQ assessment process for possible inpatient detox patients

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Required licensure/certification: Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, a related field, or Psychology
  • Crisis counseling work experience
  • Ability to provide direct treatment, counseling, psychotherapy, referrals, psychosocial assessment, and crisis counseling
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary mental health teams and support discharge planning
  • Ability to document casework activities and patient charts according to department standards
