About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own Carmoola's fraud strategy across customer, document, dealer and vehicle fraud
  • Decide what to build versus buy while balancing loss prevention against customer and dealer friction
  • Own the fraud roadmap and shape requirements with Product and Engineering
  • Work with Credit, Ops and Collections to ensure controls fit business operations
  • Design and develop AI agents that assess application, document, bank, bureau, dealer and vehicle data
  • Build fraud classifiers, anomaly detection, document intelligence and network analysis
  • Identify linked applications, synthetic identities and dealer collusion
  • Own end-to-end production deployment, including version-controlled code, CI/CD, safe releases, live monitoring, governance and human oversight
  • Test fraud journeys and controls using deepfakes, synthetic documents, AI-generated identities and automated application attacks
  • Deliver fraud analytics and management information showing losses, prevention and causes
  • Report against risk appetite to senior leadership and the board
  • Build relationships with peer lenders, Cifas, National Hunter, the FLA, UK Finance and law enforcement
  • Convert shared intelligence about emerging threats into new controls

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience in fraud prevention or financial crime within UK consumer lending, ideally motor finance, point-of-sale or a fast-growth fintech
  • Personally built fraud or risk models and put them into production
  • Expert in Python and SQL
  • Strong grounding in machine learning
  • Product and delivery mindset; ability to define problems, prioritise, collaborate with Product, Engineering, Credit, Ops and Collections, and deliver outcomes
  • Practical experience building with LLMs and AI agents on real decisions, including evaluation, guardrails and governance
  • Experience with Git, testing, CI/CD, cloud platforms and model monitoring
  • Well connected in the UK fraud community
  • Ability to design controls proportionate to risk and explain them to engineers and the board
