About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee the company’s accounting and financial management functions
- Manage financial reporting, job cost accounting, internal controls, and cash management
- Partner with operations and executive leadership to provide financial insights
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Ensure integrity of the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial statements
- Ensure compliance with GAAP
- Collaborate with external auditors on annual audits or reviews
- Prepare management financials and KPI reports
- Establish and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
- Monitor job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion reporting
- Review project financial performance and support cost and margin analysis
- Ensure accurate capture and coding of job costs
- Partner with project management on costs incurred and cost-to-complete estimates
- Manage equipment department accounting, utilization, and profitability reporting
- Support job cost estimates, contract billing, retainage tracking, and revenue recognition compliance
- Analyze margin variances, cost overruns, and profitability opportunities
- Manage working capital and cash forecasts
- Monitor customer invoicing, accounts receivable aging, collections, accounts payable, and pay-when-paid arrangements
- Participate in operational budgets and forecasts
- Review contracts
- Support banking, bonding, and insurance relationships with required reports
- Improve and automate AP, AR, payroll, expense management, and related processes
- Produce meaningful financial and KPI reports
- Support general office operations in a small-team environment
- Report to the Chief Financial Officer and supervise accounting staff
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance required
- 5+ years of related experience required
- Construction and percentage of completion accounting experience highly preferred
- CPA license and/or CCIFP designation preferred
- Experience with prevailing wage, certified payroll, and public works compliance
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Proficiency with specialized construction accounting software
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Ability to provide clear financial counsel to non-financial leaders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Ability to travel as needed
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
