About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and coordinate Caterpillar IT’s AI Center of Excellence team
- Build advanced generative AI solutions, including intelligent agents and digital assistants
- Provide technical support and direction aligned with company goals
- Manage resources to complete projects on schedule and to a high standard
- Oversee individual and team performance
- Foster learning by identifying and addressing training and development needs
- Establish and supervise engineering best practices
- Own the quality of engineering products and ensure solutions are robust, reliable, and high quality
Requirements
What you’ll need- Expert knowledge of software development tools and activities
- Extensive knowledge of software integration processes and functions
- Extensive knowledge of software quality assurance and testing
- Extensive knowledge of organizational leadership concepts
- Extensive software engineering leadership experience leading AI and software teams in agile, matrixed organizations
- Demonstrated track record delivering GenAI solutions and enterprise-scale products across hybrid cloud and embedded/edge environments
- Experience delivering complex cross-functional projects in matrixed organizations
- Proven experience with project management concepts, including project charters, scheduling, planning, and successful project completion
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, organizational, project management, and team leadership skills
- Extensive experience delivering software solutions at scale
- Knowledge of CI/CD, unit testing, integration testing, blue/green deployments, canary deployments, and incident management
- Solid software engineering and distributed systems knowledge
- Understanding of scalable system design, APIs, microservices, and cloud/edge architectures
- Working knowledge of Azure, AWS, GCP, and on-prem AI clusters
- Experience with Snowflake and Cortex AI compute capabilities
- Deep knowledge of GenAI system design, prompt engineering, agentic systems, vector databases, RAG, and LoRA fine-tuning
- Deep knowledge of GenAI model types, including LLMs, SLMs, speech, multimodal, and real-time models
- Experience with LangChain and LangGraph
- Familiarity with MCP and A2A protocols
- Expertise in AI evaluation, model selection, benchmarking, and optimization
- Familiarity with GenAI evaluation methodologies, RAG quality, output reliability, A/B testing, and human-in-the-loop validation
- Must work onsite five days a week
