About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a global, cross-functional team of software and systems engineers responsible for the Caterpillar AI Assistant
  • Manage staffing, performance management, succession planning, employee development, and organizational growth initiatives
  • Establish and communicate technical vision, architecture strategy, and product roadmaps
  • Provide leadership for AI Assistant delivery across machine platforms
  • Align engineering execution with product strategy, customer requirements, quality, cybersecurity, and business goals
  • Lead resolution of complex technical, operational, and organizational challenges
  • Partner with Digital, Technology, Product Management, UX, Cybersecurity, Legal, and Business stakeholders
  • Drive modern software development practices, AI governance, DevOps, test automation, system validation, and CI/CD
  • Manage budgets, resource planning, vendor relationships, and project execution
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, foundation models, agent frameworks, and industry trends
  • Advise senior leadership, customers, dealers, and strategic partners on AI Assistant strategy and implementation
  • Promote safety, accountability, innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement
  • Lead complex, multi-year AI platform and product development initiatives through production deployment
  • Establish AI platform architecture for deployment across machines, mobile devices, enterprise systems, and cloud environments
  • Guide model selection, validation, performance monitoring, and lifecycle management
  • Ensure compliance with Responsible AI, cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Systems Engineering, Data Science or related field
  • Experience leading software engineering organizations delivering AI-enabled products or platforms
  • Knowledge of Generative AI, Agentic AI, Foundation Models, LLMs, RAG architectures, and AI orchestration frameworks
  • Experience with cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and edge computing environments
  • Experience deploying AI solutions in industrial, manufacturing, mining, construction, autonomy, or connected machine environments
  • Strong understanding of modern software architecture including APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and data platforms
  • Experience with AI governance, responsible AI practices, cybersecurity, privacy, and model lifecycle management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead geographically distributed engineering teams
  • Proven success managing large-scale technology programs from concept through deployment and support
  • Must work full-time at the Irving/Dallas TX or Mossville IL office
  • Visa sponsorship is not available
  • Successful completion of a drug screen required
