About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical leadership in the design, development, and deployment of Caterpillar’s digital platform
- Drive ongoing development of cloud-based technology projects
- Apply Java, cloud, and mobile or web application technologies
- Develop and implement features using cloud platform products and technologies
- Develop applications using Agile team methodologies
- Organize large software projects with multiple developers using Git branching, tagging, and merging
- Develop, deploy, and debug cloud-based and serverless applications on AWS
- Use AWS service APIs, CLI, and SDKs to write applications
- Author, maintain, and debug code modules on AWS
- Build application security into initial designs and apply AWS security best practices
- Use CI/CD pipelines and containers in the development process
- Create technical project documentation and task time estimates
Requirements
What you’ll need- Position requires a four-year degree from an accredited college or university
- 14 years or more of software development experience
- 8+ years or more of experience designing and developing software applications in Java at scale
- Strong experience in JAVA and J2EE technologies with cloud-based environments
- Expert knowledge in JPA, Hibernate, JDBC, SQL, Spring, JUnit, JSON, and REST/JSON web services
- Strong knowledge of Java Design Patterns
- Experience developing and implementing features using cloud platform products and technologies
- Experience developing applications with Agile team methodologies preferred
- Strong object-oriented design skills and understanding of MVC
- Sufficient Git experience to organize large software projects with multiple developers, including branching, tagging, and merging
- Experience in AWS/Azure cloud PaaS with Java is a plus
- Strong business application design skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong debugging skills
- Highly proficient in standard Java development tools, including Eclipse and Maven
- Strong interest in building security into applications from initial design
- Experience creating technical project documentation and task time estimates
- In-depth knowledge of at least one high-level programming language
- Understanding of core AWS services, uses, and basic AWS architecture best practices
- Proficiency developing, deploying, and debugging cloud-based applications using AWS
- Ability to use AWS service APIs, AWS CLI, and SDKs to write applications
- Ability to identify key features of AWS services
- Understanding of the AWS shared responsibility model
- Understanding of application lifecycle management
- Ability to use a CI/CD pipeline to deploy applications on AWS
- Ability to use or interact with AWS services
- Ability to apply a basic understanding of cloud-native applications to write code
- Ability to write code using AWS security best practices, including IAM roles instead of embedded secrets and access keys
- Ability to author, maintain, and debug code modules on AWS
- Proficiency writing code for serverless applications
- Understanding of containers in the development process
