About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Complete multiple rotational placements in Caterpillar's IT division focusing on cybersecurity
  • Contribute to the development of a cybersecurity customer portal
  • Collaborate with software developers on vulnerability scan remediation
  • Optimize cloud infrastructure
  • Develop automated guardrails to ensure compliance with cloud policies
  • Write configuration guidelines for securely implementing cloud technologies
  • Participate in cyber threat intelligence processes supporting risk-based decision making
  • Support project management processes serving the business, dealers, and customers
  • Build cybersecurity skills through mentorship from experienced professionals and collaboration with other apprentices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current first year student at Illinois Central College or Nashville State Community College in either a transferrable or non-transferrable degree program
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA (no rounding); first-semester students are eligible and encouraged to apply
  • Experience in cybersecurity or technology demonstrated through extracurricular activities, personal projects, volunteer work, or other technology/cybersecurity-related activities above minimum school commitments
  • Ability to provide one faculty reference from the current institution
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Any offer of employment is conditioned upon successful completion of a drug screen
  • Top candidates may have prior work experience in technology or cybersecurity; full-time, part-time, intern, or volunteer experience acceptable
  • Top candidates may have foundational knowledge of a programming language such as Python, Java, .NET, or PowerShell
