About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build software solutions that drive automation and security into the application development lifecycle
- Integrate security and DevOps practices into Caterpillar Digital Applications
- Guide software engineers on cybersecurity issues within a portfolio of related applications
- Influence security and prioritization decisions at the bug or story level
- Analyze, validate, communicate, and consult on security defects from automated and manual sources
- Provide security guidance to software engineers, architects, product owners, and leaders
- Document decisions and resulting architectures and navigate review and approval processes
- Enable and monitor automated defect-detection tooling such as CodeQL and Rapid7
- Collect and communicate scope and access information for penetration tests and security assurance assessments
- Manage assessment outputs through the Defect Management Process
- Consult with software engineers to improve application security maturity using scorecards and maturity models
- Author correction-of-error reports in partnership with software engineers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience as a software engineer in any language or framework; preference for cybersecurity-related issues
- Experience working on a major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, GCP, or Salesforce
- Experience analyzing and remediating security findings from SAST, DAST, penetration testing, SCA, and similar sources
- Experience using OWASP Top 10, MITRE CWE Top 25, OWASP ASVS, or other industry-standard security frameworks
- Experience building or supporting web applications and APIs, including SPAs and RESTful APIs
- Professional certification in cybersecurity or software engineering is listed as a qualification, including cloud-provider certifications, CompTIA Security+, Cloud+, CCSK, ISC2 CSLP, or other cybersecurity certifications
- Knowledge of decision-making and critical-thinking processes
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of the software development life cycle
- Knowledge of software integration processes and functions
- Knowledge of software product design and architecture
- Must be based in Chicago, Illinois; Peoria, Illinois; or Dallas, Texas
- Visa sponsorship is not available
- Successful completion of a drug screen is required as a condition of employment
