About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Integrate autonomy solutions with base machines
  • Help define requirements and system architecture for autonomous machine systems
  • Work with onboard electronics systems in laboratory and on-machine environments
  • Coordinate with teams to implement, validate, and demonstrate autonomous solutions
  • Apply autonomous system solutions to Excavators, Wheel Loaders, and Articulated Trucks
  • Work with Machine Development teams to deliver machine autonomy features
  • Lead or support system integration, functional testing, and validation
  • Resolve issues through triage and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate activities among autonomy development, machine development, machine systems, and validation teams
  • Decompose customer requirements into system-level requirements
  • Maintain documentation and traceability for system architecture, design decisions, and success criteria
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Surface Loading Machine Autonomous Solutions
  • Communicate system readiness and technical risks to stakeholders
  • Document designs, requirements, and success criteria and communicate project progress to leadership and external partners

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Strong professional experience as a Systems Engineer supporting product development teams focusing on software and hardware development
  • Prior experience collaborating with systems integration and validation teams for engineering product development
  • Proven ability to work on production products through design, implementation, customer rollout, and support
  • Ability to decompose complex customer requirements into achievable technical requirements
  • Knowledge and experience with autonomous systems and hardware, including vision systems such as Camera, Lidar, and Radar, GNSS, and IMU
  • Knowledge of on-machine electrical systems and best practices, including harnessing and wiring
  • Experience with CAN, Ethernet, and ROS2
  • Strong working knowledge of the Autonomy ecosystem in mining, construction, or other autonomous system control system architectures
  • Experience in Construction or Mining industry preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Wheel Loaders, Excavators, and/or Articulated Trucks preferred
  • Must work full time at a designated Caterpillar facility or facility where current work is taking place
  • Visa sponsorship is not available
  • Successful completion of a drug screen required for employment
