About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop the next generation of autonomous machines for the construction industry
  • Integrate autonomy solutions with base machines
  • Define requirements and align system architecture
  • Coordinate hardware, testing, verification, validation, and certification activities
  • Design, implement, test, and release autonomy or robotics systems
  • Apply autonomous system solutions to excavators, wheel loaders, and articulated trucks
  • Integrate technologies to improve autonomy capability and robustness
  • Troubleshoot complex system issues across development and production environments
  • Facilitate design reviews and technical discussions
  • Communicate technical concepts, risks, readiness, and trade-offs to engineers, stakeholders, and leadership
  • Manage projects across time, cost, quality, and risk
  • Provide technical and project leadership
  • Mentor engineers and improve technical quality
  • Conduct hands-on engineering in laboratory environments and on machines at proving grounds for development, validation, and demonstrations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field – or commensurate industry experience
  • Extensive experience as a Systems Integration or Design Engineer supporting engineering projects on robotics, autonomous or semi-autonomous systems
  • Strong experience with robotics, including Planning, Perception, Positioning, and Controls
  • Experience with radars and sensors such as LIDAR, GNSS, GPS, Radar, and other camera sensors preferred
  • Experience with field testing, HIL, and Proving Ground support preferred
  • Experience with Site Autonomy Platforms preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Wheel Loaders, Excavators, and/or Articulated Trucks preferred
  • Experience in Construction or Mining Industries preferred
  • Strong knowledge of artificial intelligence concepts, technologies, and methods
  • Experience with product architecture and design, architecture alternatives, tradeoffs, and design reviews
  • Advanced software, hardware, and application troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
  • Must work full time at a designated Caterpillar facility; remote work is not available
  • Visa sponsorship is not available
