About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and validate end-to-end telematics systems and software features
  • Develop solutions connecting assets to enterprise and cloud-based applications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative digital products
  • Drive improvements in performance, reliability, quality, and serviceability
  • Support next-generation connectivity and digital solutions for Power and Energy customers
  • Gather and document customer and market requirements
  • Define software and system requirements and translate business needs into technical specifications
  • Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and validation activities
  • Diagnose and resolve system-level issues across hardware, software, and communication interfaces
  • Create user guides, technical documentation, installation instructions, training materials, and other customer-facing content
  • Develop and maintain automated test solutions using Python and other scripting tools
  • Design and build test harnesses and establish test environments
  • Support product validation activities
  • Support field installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting at customer and dealer locations, with approximately 10% travel
  • Contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Product Improvement (CPI), and Built-In Quality (BIQ) initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques; ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
  • Knowledge of problem-solving approaches, tools, and techniques
  • Knowledge of requirements analysis tools, methods, and techniques
  • Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques, and tools
  • Experience with industrial protocols, control systems, and networking technologies, including Modbus, Allen-Bradley, Siemens S7, TCP/IP, J1939, and RS485
  • Knowledge of telematics, connected products, and industrial communication systems
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and validation platforms such as dSPACE and FAST
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar product development processes, engines, diagnostics, and service toolsets
  • Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex hardware/software environments
  • Experience with diagnostic and service tools, including CANalyzer, Cat ET, Wireshark, and PuTTY
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Successful completion of a drug screen required for employment
