About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of Caterpillar’s digital applications.
Participate in new program development and maintenance of mobile, web, cloud, server, and distributed computing systems.
Build backend microservices using the Spring Boot framework.
Identify and resolve complex application and technical problems, including off-shift and weekend support calls.
Work independently on complex systems, infrastructure components, proof of concepts, frameworks, technologies, and solutions.
Drive application development focused on delivering business-value features.
Establish software quality practices and habits within the team.
Identify areas for team growth and improvement.
Direct development, debugging, and testing of application software.
Perform integrated testing and customer acceptance testing.
Manage work assignments, coordinate with others, and set priorities and work plans.
Collaborate with project leads, test managers/leads, and other developers on project implementation.
Perform other duties assigned by Caterpillar management.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Position requires a four-year degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
8+ years of software development experience.
5+ years of experience designing and developing applications in Java Spring Boot framework.
Hands-on experience with Spring Boot framework and OSGi specification.
Strong knowledge of microservice logging, monitoring, debugging, and testing.
Strong proficiency in Java programming language.
Knowledge of system architecture and application architecture.
Knowledge of standard design patterns.
Knowledge of web services protocols and API development.
Knowledge of JSON and YAML markup languages.
Experience interconnecting microservices with databases.
Experience in microservice integration, packaging, build automation, and deployment.
Knowledge of unit and automation testing tools and frameworks.
Knowledge of DevOps best practices.
Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools.
Expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases.
Understanding of software development principles and methodologies.
Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with developers and stakeholders.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Nice to have: familiarity with Git, Swagger, PCF, RabbitMQ, REST web services, JUnit, Mockito, PowerMock, MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Sonar, Fortify, WebInspect, and Agile.
