About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, and implement the modern, cloud-based Global Warranty Management solution
Support the transition from legacy systems to modern cloud-based solutions through Agile software development
Perform programming, project management, and development assignments, including complex systems work
Identify and resolve complex application and technical problems, including off-shift and weekend support calls
Work independently on complex systems or infrastructure components
Drive application development focused on valuable business features
Mentor and assist software engineers with technical assistance and direction
Establish software quality practices and habits within the team
Design, test, and refine prompts and system instructions for LLMs supporting warranty workflows, decision support, reporting, and user assistance
Identify and encourage areas for team growth and improvement
Communicate with end users and internal customers to direct development, debugging, and testing
Perform integrated testing and customer acceptance testing
Perform other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
At least 5 years of hands-on experience as an application developer
Proficiency in Java and JavaScript
Knowledge of software development tools and activities
Ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements
Knowledge of technical aspects of software products; ability to design, configure and integrate technical aspects
Experience executing functional, performance, and load testing
Ability to effectively communicate ideas, information, and needs
Ability to analyze situations and reach productive decisions
Demonstrated leadership on medium to large-scale projects impacting strategic priorities
Experience deploying software using CI/CD tools such as Azure Dev Ops and GitHub Actions
Experience collaborating with product managers, backend engineers, and designers
Experience working within an Agile framework, ideally Scrum
Extensive experience deploying and maintaining software using AWS public clouds
Experience crafting prompts or specification documents to guide AI tools in generating code
Working knowledge of data structures, schemas, and metadata
Solid understanding of Caterpillar-approved authentication and authorization protocols
Extensive experience developing secure and scalable applications using Java 21 or higher and Spring Boot
Experience with JavaScript ES6+, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and JSX
Experience with React or Angular
Experience with AWS ECS, AWS Lambda, AWS SNS, AWS Kinesis, AWS RDS, or AWS DynamoDB
Experience connecting React or Angular front ends to Java back ends via RESTful APIs
Must work onsite five days a week
