About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of Caterpillar’s digital applications
Participate in new program development and maintenance of mobile, web, cloud, server, and distributed computing systems
Perform Spring Boot development assignments, including complex systems work, without close supervision
Build backend microservices using the Spring Boot framework and customize components to meet business needs
Identify and resolve complex application and technical problems, including off-shift and weekend support calls
Work on complex systems or infrastructure components under the mentorship of lead and senior developers
Drive application development focused on delivering valuable business features
Maintain high software quality standards by establishing good development practices
Support development, debugging, and testing of application software for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness
Perform integrated and customer acceptance testing with careful planning and execution
Collaborate with project leads, senior developers, and testers
Perform other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management

Requirements

What you’ll need

Four-year degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university
2+ years of software development experience
1+ years of experience working with the Java Spring Boot framework
Hands-on experience with Spring Boot framework and OSGi specification
Strong knowledge of microservice logging, monitoring, debugging, and testing
Strong proficiency in Java programming language
Knowledge of RESTful web services and API development
Knowledge of markup languages such as JSON and YML
Experience interconnecting microservices with databases
Experience in microservice integration, packaging, build automation, and deployment
Understanding of software development principles and methodologies
Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with other developers and stakeholders
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with software development design patterns, GIT, Swagger, PCF, and RabbitMQ
Expertise in API technologies such as REST web services
Experience writing unit tests with JUnit, Mockito, or PowerMock
Familiarity with MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or equivalent
Knowledge of streaming systems such as Kafka
Working knowledge of quality and security scan technologies such as Sonar, Fortify, and WebInspect or equivalent
Knowledge of the Agile approach
