About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define system architectures and technical roadmaps for future products
  • Lead technical development of hybrid power and energy storage systems
  • Drive integration of generators, battery energy storage systems (BESS), inverters, microgrids, and site-level control systems
  • Guide requirements development, design reviews, validation activities, and technical decision-making
  • Partner with global engineering teams to deliver solutions meeting customer needs and business goals
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across multiple projects and teams
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to advance Caterpillar's hybrid energy portfolio
  • Support compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and certification efforts
  • Coordinate execution of product test plans, including resources, strategy, schedules, processes, and tools
  • Apply troubleshooting techniques to isolate problems and define resolution approaches

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Deep expertise in one or more of: Hybrid Energy Systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Microgrids, Energy Management Systems (EMS), Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Power Electronics, System Architecture
  • Experience leading complex technical projects and influencing engineering direction
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, controls, inverter technologies, or power distribution systems
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, PowerFactory, PSCAD, or similar engineering tools
  • Extensive analytical skills and understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications
  • Extensive knowledge of decision-making and critical-thinking processes and tools
  • Extensive knowledge of project management strategies and tactics
  • Extensive knowledge of product development life cycle methodology in manufacturing organizations
  • Extensive knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques, and tools
  • Extensive knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques
  • Ability to work onsite five days a week
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
  • Must be eligible to work without visa sponsorship; visa sponsorship is not available
