About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support
  • Proofread documents for accuracy, typographical errors, and formatting compliance with office guidelines
  • Prepare and format congressional letters, memoranda, surveys, talking points, reports, speeches, budget documents, and Federal Register notices
  • Provide technical and administrative support to lab/lab personnel
  • Perform filing, answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and make travel arrangements
  • Type correspondence, reports, records, technical papers, tables, charts, graphs, presentations, and government forms
  • Coordinate meetings, agendas, logistics, and office staff schedules
  • Perform Internet-based research
  • Maintain organizational effectiveness through schedule, communication, and document management
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Report to the Operational Lead

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct work experience in an office environment OR at least an associate degree in a related field
  • Submission of a DNA sample for storage in the government-managed DNA Sample-Employee Database
  • Experience exchanging non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Experience exhibiting industry-accepted customer service practices and professional acumen
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Must be able to pass a background check; additional checks may be required
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • High-level attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Adaptability and ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work independently and on a multi-functional team
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Microsoft Office (Access, Project, Vizio) experience is desirable
  • Ability to work on-site in Beltsville, MD
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility for holidays or work outside normal hours as needed
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods
  • Ability to use computer and office productivity tools with sufficient speed
  • Ability to sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen
