About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide accurate spoken-language interpretation between parties in real time
  • Interpret consecutively and/or simultaneously during court hearings, trials, depositions, arraignments, conferences, and other legal proceedings
  • Provide interpretation for pretrials, probation hearings, sentencing, jail visits, forensic interviews, immigration, and human trafficking matters
  • Facilitate cross-cultural understanding by clarifying non-verbal cues and culture-specific concepts when necessary
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and impartiality in accordance with regulations and ethical standards
  • Complete required documentation, logs, and reports according to agency and contractual protocols
  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws, government customer policies, and professional codes of conduct
  • Work onsite as needed by the courts and travel to different locations for in-person interpretation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • 3+ years of court interpretation, immigration, trafficking, hearings
  • Native or near-native fluency in both English and one of these languages: Cantonese Dialects: Guangfu, Guangxi, Siyi, Gao-Young, Yonh-Xun, Gou-Lou, Qin-Lian, Zhongshan
  • Familiarity with legal terminology
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality and act impartially
  • Court certified in Boston Massachusetts (preferred qualification)
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and on a multi-functional team
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately relay spoken information
  • Must be able to be on call and receive notification within 48 hours of potential jobs
  • Must be able to travel to different locations to interpret in person
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools
  • Physical and mental ability to perform duties for extended periods
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including holidays, after-hours, and weekends as needed
