About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, implement, and maintain moderately complex databases for business and operational needs
  • Ensure efficient database configurations and maintain current database dictionaries
  • Integrate systems through effective and reliable database designs
  • Administer and test computer databases, especially PostgreSQL environments
  • Perform database testing to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement database security measures
  • Administer, monitor, and maintain PostgreSQL version 13+ environments
  • Set up, configure, patch, tune performance, and plan capacity
  • Implement and validate backup and recovery procedures using pg_dump/pg_restore and WAL archiving
  • Configure, monitor, and manage PostgreSQL replication and high availability
  • Optimize queries and indexing using EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, partitioning, and pg_stat_statements
  • Plan and execute migrations involving PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, and Oracle
  • Integrate PostgreSQL with existing IT infrastructures
  • Develop, configure, and deploy monitoring and alerting systems using Prometheus, Grafana, or similar tools
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database performance to proactively address bottlenecks
  • Report to the Program Manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in database administration and management
  • Proven expertise in PostgreSQL version 13 or higher in medium to large-scale deployments
  • Strong technical knowledge of database management systems and hands-on experience in database design, administration, and optimization
  • Ability to implement scalable, efficient, and secure enterprise database solutions
  • Deep understanding of backup/recovery processes and high-availability configurations within PostgreSQL environments
  • Experience with database migration projects to and from PostgreSQL, including AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL
  • Proficiency in query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning
  • Experience setting up observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, adapt to change, and learn quickly
  • Ability to work independently and on a multifunctional team
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Ability to work onsite in the main office
  • Ability to sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen
  • May be required to work flexible hours, holidays, or outside normal business hours
