About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Accurately interpret spoken communication between parties in real time
  • Preserve meaning, intent, and tone during interpretation
  • Facilitate cross-cultural understanding by clarifying non-verbal cues and culture-specific concepts
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and impartiality
  • Complete required documentation, logs, and reports
  • Comply with applicable laws, government customer policies, and professional codes of conduct
  • Provide interpretation services in a variety of settings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Report to the Deputy Program Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Native or near-native fluency in English and at least one target language: Arabic, Cantonese, Dari/Pashto, Farsi, German, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tigrinya, or Vietnamese
  • Proven experience providing interpretation services, preferably in a government or public sector environment
  • Familiarity with specialized legal, medical, technical, or military terminology as required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act impartially
  • Certification from a recognized interpreting body preferred, if applicable
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Strong multitasking skills
  • Ability to work independently and on a multifunctional team
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately relay spoken information
  • Ability to work onsite and travel to different locations for in-person interpretation
  • Must be on call and available for notification within 48 hours of potential jobs
  • Physical and mental ability to perform duties for extended periods
  • Ability to use computers and office productivity tools
  • Ability to sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen
