About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide high-quality, in-person, consecutive and/or simultaneous Vietnamese–English interpretation for Arizona courts and related justice system entities
  • Interpret accurately, completely, and impartially in court hearings, pretrial conferences and hearings, probation hearings and meetings, sentencing hearings, jail and detention center visits, forensic interviews, and other legal proceedings
  • Adhere to ethical standards and professional codes of conduct, including confidentiality, impartiality, and professionalism
  • Prepare for assignments by reviewing case-related materials and relevant terminology
  • Maintain professional communication with Cayuse coordinators and court personnel regarding logistics, arrival times, and status updates
  • Accurately convey complex legal terminology, procedural language, and specialized vocabulary
  • Comply with Arizona court policies, rules, and guidelines for interpreter services
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Report to the Deputy Program Manager
  • Accept as-needed assignments with approximately 24–48 hours' notice

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree (BA) or higher in a relevant field such as Linguistics, Translation/Interpretation, Foreign Languages, Legal Studies, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience providing language services
  • Court or judiciary interpreting experience strongly preferred
  • Legal services interpretation experience, such as law offices, legal aid organizations, public defender or prosecutor offices
  • Prior on-site interpretation experience in high-stakes, confidential, and sensitive environments
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Vietnamese and English, with strong command of legal terminology in both languages
  • Court certification in the State of Arizona as an Interpreter, and/or relevant interpreter qualifications including CPC completion, 45 hours of formal legal services training, NAJIT examination, FCICE, seminar or conference testing, or comparable professional conference interpretation qualification
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Acrobat
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to be on-call and travel to different locations for in-person interpretation
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods
  • Ability to use computers and office productivity tools with sufficient speed
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace
  • Must be able to sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen
  • May need to work a flexible schedule, including holidays and hours outside normal business hours
  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes
