About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Administer, optimize, and troubleshoot Windows and UNIX systems, including Linux or Solaris
  • Oversee setup, configuration, and operation of mainframe, mini, or client/server-based business systems
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Windows and UNIX operating systems
  • Plan, implement, and manage custom system solutions
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize system operations and resource utilization
  • Conduct system capacity planning for scalability and performance
  • Analyze system faults, identify root causes, and resolve technical issues
  • Perform diagnostic tests and detailed hardware and operating-system problem analysis
  • Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems
  • Evaluate, install, and manage software through testing and production phases
  • Review and prepare documentation for system testing, software installation, and configuration
  • Design and execute preventive maintenance plans
  • Address system and environment issues to minimize downtime
  • Collaborate with business units to determine system and environment requirements for multiple projects
  • Coordinate with vendors on technical issue resolution and updates
  • Report to the Program Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 6–8 years of related experience or Master’s Degree with 2–6 years of experience
  • Considerable experience configuring and administering Windows and UNIX systems (Linux or Solaris)
  • DoD 8140-compliant certifications (e.g., IAT Level II credentials)
  • Top-Secret Clearance is required
  • Must be able to pass a background check; additional checks may be required
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and on a multifunctional team
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Ability to use computers and office productivity tools with sufficient speed
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods
  • May require lifting and moving hardware equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to establish a productive and professional workspace
  • Ability to sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen
