About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, review, and coordinate electrical systems for new construction, remodels, and infrastructure upgrades across commercial and retail facilities
  • Provide technical leadership for power distribution, lighting, controls, refrigeration support systems, energy management system integrations, and other critical building systems
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and vendors to deliver code-compliant, cost-effective, and constructible solutions
  • Develop and review electrical plans, load calculations, circuiting, equipment layouts, and specifications
  • Use AutoCAD and/or Revit for electrical design and drawing reviews
  • Coordinate electrical requirements with Architecture, Mechanical, Refrigeration, Controls, EMS, and Construction teams
  • Perform engineering reviews, redlines, and code compliance evaluations
  • Support bid package preparation, vendor selection, and equipment procurement
  • Evaluate system changes and recommend improvements to performance, reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness
  • Investigate and resolve equipment, installation, and field construction issues
  • Research emerging technologies, equipment, vendors, and engineering best practices
  • Ensure designs meet client requirements, applicable codes, industry standards, and utility requirements
  • Provide senior-level technical review and redlining of plans, calculations, and specifications
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers
  • Travel up to 15% for field assessments, site visits, project meetings, and construction inspections
  • Conduct on-site assessments of existing electrical systems and recommend actions regarding condition, safety, and replacement needs
  • Perform field inspections of completed installations, prepare deficiency reports, and support corrective actions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience within an MEP consulting, design-build, retail industrial, or similar technical environment
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Extensive experience with electrical distribution, lighting, grounding, and life safety systems in commercial, retail, industrial, or supermarket facilities
  • Demonstrated expertise performing high-level technical reviews, code compliance evaluations, and system-level coordination
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including client-facing interaction
  • Deep knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), applicable building codes, and industry standards
  • Proficiency in reviewing AutoCAD or Revit-based design packages
  • Expert knowledge of commercial and retail electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, and life safety
  • Strong command of utility requirements
  • Proven ability to perform senior-level engineering review, redlining, and code compliance evaluation
  • Experience coordinating electrical systems across mechanical, refrigeration, controls, and architectural disciplines
  • Demonstrated engineering judgment and ability to assess constructability and recommend cost-effective solutions
  • Effective technical communication and client-facing consulting skills
  • Project management skills, including prioritizing multiple assignments, managing deadlines, and supporting concurrent projects
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and support development of engineering standards
  • Detail-oriented, quality-focused, and effective at resolving complex technical issues
